Size guide
Shoes, jackets, trousers, and shirts in each system a label may use. A linked size opens the shop in that size; the shop also matches its equivalents.
Shoes
UK sizes are the axis. Between UK 8 and 11 the conversion is settled. Below and above, Continental charts disagree by a size, so both are shown, and the shop matches either.
Jackets and suits
An Italian size is the chest in inches plus ten. A soft Neapolitan jacket may be cut closer; the chest measurement on the listing is the better guide.
Trousers
An Italian trouser size is the waist in inches plus sixteen. High-rise cuts sit above the hip, so measure where you wear them.
Shirts
Italian shirtmakers print the collar in centimetres, English ones in inches. A letter size covers two collars.
Makers
A maker's own chart wins over the table. Where it departs, the shop reads that maker's labels on its chart.
- Crockett & Jones Labelled in UK sizes. Its own chart puts US half a size above UK, not a whole size.
- Edward Green Labelled in UK sizes. Its own chart puts US half a size above UK, not a whole size.
Labelled in UK sizes A plain number on these makers is read as a UK size: Barker, Carmina, Cheaney, Church's, Crockett & Jones, Crown Northampton, Edward Green, Foster & Son, Gaziano & Girling, George Cleverley, Grenson, John Lobb, Loake, Meermin, Sanders, Tricker's.
Measuring
Feet: stand on paper in the evening, mark heel and longest toe, and measure the line. Take the longer foot. Lasts differ, so a size in one house is a starting point in the next.
Jacket: chest at its fullest, under the arms, tape level. Trousers: waist where you wear them. Shirt: around the neck below the Adam's apple, with one finger under the tape.
